I just got a young parakeet and want to know what to expect.

Parakeets can live anywhere between 2 and 5 years all the way to 20 years in some cases. IT really depends on the breed and health of the individual bird.

7-18 years is the life expectancy of a parakeet. Largely, this number will vary based on how well the tiny birds are treated. Grab a book on parakeets, as they are wonderful little pets to learn about.

The average life span for parakeets spans from 5-9 years. However, that can vary genetics and how well the bird is cared for. Some birds live up to 15 years, allowing for the fact that they are well-fed, and adjusted to their environment. Take care of your pet, and you can prolong their tome with you.

There are a lot of variables but the average life span is about five to nine years. Personality traits in the bird will make a difference too -- if it's happy and bonded with you then the life span could extend out to some 15 years. You must ensure it's diet is healthy and varied too.
