What is the average amount of time a couple dates before getting engaged?

It really depends. Some people decide that they want to get married after just a few dates and end up getting engaged. Some people date for YEARS before they finally decide they should get married. So it's up to you really. Don't worry about what other people say about it.

Obviously this questions could vary from two weeks to ten years, but on average, I would say the average time a couple will "date" for before getting engaged is between six to 12 months.

Some research shows that the average time is 3 years, while others will say 1 year. It depends on which study and what country the study was done in. Culturaly, the average time can vary quite a lot. Ultimately, I think it depends on the couple and when they feel they should get engaged.

I've been dating my girlfriend for 6 years. I love her to death and will eventually get engaged but only when the time and circumstances are right. People who get engaged in the first 18 months are rushing it and will probably not even really KNOW each other.
