It's about the Hathaway siblings, who also appeared in Robert's Montana Sky. Jo Ellen returns to the family inn to deal with new developments regarding her mother's murder. Recommended.

Sanctuary is a romantic suspense novel by Nora Roberts. The novel starts out when lead character, Jo Ellen Hathaway, has left her family home on the Georgia Reef to pursue a photography career at the young age of 18. Jo Ellen, along with the rest of her immediate family, have never full recovered from their mother abandoning the family years earlier. While pursuing her career, Jo Ellen begins receiving photographs of herself that were obviously taken while Jo Ellen was unaware anyone was watching her. In the midst of these photographs, another strange photograph shows up. It is a photograph of Jo Ellen's mother, nude, and posed as a corpse. Jo Ellen collapses and is hospitalized. When she recovers, Jo Ellen returns to her family home to Sanctuary. Shortly after Jo Ellen returns home, Nathan Delaney also returns to Sanctuary. His family was on the island when Jo Ellen's mother disappeared 20 years earlier and with Nathan's reappearance, long dead secrets of the past have returned to the present. Sanctuary did well on book sales but some readers considered the plot and story line confusing and too similar to Montana Sky.
