Roux-En-Y surgery is also known as Gastric Bypass Surgery. The surgery divides the stomach into two pouches, a small pouch where your food is digested and a large pouch that is bypassed. Additionally a portion of intestines is bypassed causing mal-absorbtion of food. Together the result is extreme weight loss. This is a major surgery and can be dangerous.

All invasive procedures carry some risk, but much of that risk is dependent on the overall health of the patient and the skill of the surgeon. Roux-En-Y is a permanent form of gastric bypass in which the size of the stomach is reduced to an egg-sized pouch and a 2 foot portion of intestine is bypassed.

It involves re-routing the stomach so that you can fully digest food. Any surgery is dangerous so yes, it does have some complications.

The procedure is a surgically created anastomosis. This surgery looks like the letter Y and was first described by Cesar Roux. It is used in several operations.
