The reason it holds those contests though is because when people enter them, they give their information to Publisher's Clearinghouse, and PC gives that information to companies so that the companies can send advertisements to the people. That's how PC makes money

Publisher's clearinghouse is a direct mail trick to get you to buy magazines. They would offer a large sweepstakes to people who would buy a subscription.
