Poking is a social interaction to tell someone you're thinking of them instead of sending a message or writing on their wall. The person you poke will see they've been poked, and they'll know that you were on their page recently or were thinking of them. Poking has become uncommon on Facebook recently however.

Poking means you remind a person that you are remembered. Some people might not really have anything to say but its just a way of saying "Hi". Poke and when you turn around, you say a Hi!

When you someone on Facebook a notification is sent to the person you poked saying "you have been poked by ______" this doesn't effect anything, it's just fun.
