Believed to accelerate the healing process to equine leg injuries, pin firing is a method of cauterizing/burning the injured area with an iron or chemical. Advancement in veterinary medicine within the last century has rendered pin firing a nearly obsolete, unacceptably painful procedure.

Pin firing is when a person purposefully burns or freezes a horse's leg in order to help heal a chronic injury. This seems to help the horse heal because it flushes out the injury. This is done mostly in racehorses.

Pin firing is done on the tendons, using a small heated "iron". The theory behind it is to increase blood flow to the fired area, thus speeding healing of the tendons. The procedure leaves behind a series of small, close set scars placed over the tendons, usually on fore legs.

Pin Firing is a contraversial treatment for leg injuries in horses. When a leg is pin fired, a series of small incisions or puctures are applied to the injured area, further injuring the horse but supposadly causing their body to promote a more aggressive healing property to that area. The theory is that further injury speeds up the healing process.

Pin firing was done on front legs to increase circulation in the tendon and cannon bone areas. Theory is to create more scar tissue, for faster healing of tendons.
