Whelping is the act of a female dog giving birth, so you would need a mature female, breed her, and bring her to whelping safely. If you want good breeding dogs, you need to consult your vet and look into breed-specific forums and clubs to learn how best to breed your dog for a good bloodline.

Prepare a place for the puppies to be born, such as a newspaper-lined large box (towels can suffocate puppies). The contractions will be obvious by panting and scratching. When labor begins, if it takes more than twenty minutes, call a vet for help. Make sure she cleans the puppies and cuts the cord.

Generally St Bernards don't need any help whelping, unless there is a complication. You should keep a close eye on the dog when she's in labor and make sure everything goes smoothly. If there is a complication take the dog to a vet immediately since a c-section might be needed.

You shouldn't have to be too involved in the whelping process as long as everything goes smoothly and their aren't complications. If there are call a vet immediately.

Whelping is giving birth, so basically you need to support the mom as she has the puppies. Make sure you have the number of a vet on hand.

Make sure you have a vet on call in case anything goes wrong. Sometimes in large breeds c-sections are necessary.
