When you go to court, you will be given an opportunity to speak. For the most part, it is better to remain silent until you are spoken to, either by an attorney or the judge. Take your time, pause to think of your response, maintain good eye contact and practice what you want to say before you go to court.

Hire an attorney, don't screw around with all of this. If you cannot shows cause for defending yourself, you will be in serious jeopardy. You need to show that force was necessary.

Showing cause depends on the type of case you are involved in. You can show cause as to why you should not appear, why another should appear, why your case should be dismissed, or why a case should be brought on another. You need to know your law, and what "cause" means in that legal instance.
