First you need to disconnect the battery, it is best to disconnect both sides. Then if access allows remove the wires to the starter. Then you must remove the starter mounting bolts. Then you take the starter off and installation is reverse of removal.

Getting bolts out of the starter is easy. getting the stater out and in of the engine compartment is tough. Everything can be accessed from the top of the engine.

Disconnect battery to avoid harm to self and vehicle. Remove positive lead at starter then remove three bolts holding starter to bell housing. Clean area and replace and reconnect everything.

Remove the wires on the back of the starter/solenoid that go to the alternator, battery, and start signal. There are two bolts holding the starter to the transmission. Remove those, and put everything back with the new starter. Make sure it is seated right before tightening the bolts.

I would jack up the front end and remove the passenger wheel. Use a socket and extender because of the tight area. After you remove the bolts, reverse process.

The starter is relatively easy to replace on the Corolla if you have the right tools. You need to jack the car up enough so that you can safely go under the vehicle to get to the starter. The starter is connected by two bolts and a wire harness. Just pull out and replace after that.
