The respond to vehicle accidents. If an individual is trapped in a vehicle they will extricate them from the vehicle. If there is hazardous substance leaking from a vehicle they will contain and clean it up. They hold events prom0ting public awareness and work with children to educate them on what they need to do in case of a fire.

What comes to mind, is getting cats out of trees, search and rescue, and ultimately helping the overall community in handling issues.

Something surprising to some people about the duties of a firefighter has to do with paramedic skills. Firefighters must be knowledgable in paramedic skills.

Firefighters in some jurisdictions are also fire marshalls, inspecting buildings for meeting fire safety codes (cleared hallways, lit exit signs). They also educate children on fire safety, from stop-drop-roll to how to exit safely from burning buildings.
