Herzberg's theory is a management theory which distinguishes between motivation that comes from real satisfaction, and motivation that is affected only by "hygiene factors". It helps managers to work out what kind of interventions and initiatives will improve worker motivation, and what only appears to do so, but in fact is a waste of time.
