This actually means working with metal using heat and hand tools. Instead of using impression dies the metal is worked by menipulating in a press. Also called flat-die forging.
Hand-forging is creating something out of metal by heating the metal until it is glowing hot. This is then shaped by hand by a craftman using a variety of shaping tools.
