Place card should be placed at the top of the dinner plate. Be certain the names have all been spelled correctly and using the same protocol for all, such as Mr., Mrs., Ms., or just the first and last name, but be consistent. Seating should be boy/girl if possible.

First and foremost, make sure that you have all of the names spelled correctly. Secondly, if there are husband/wife parties, make sure that they sit by each other. Lastly, make sure not to place two people who don't get along next to each other.

For a formal event, use "Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith" on the place cards; for an informal event, "Mary and Robert Smith".

At a formal dinner party, set place cards above the dinner plate at the 12 o'clock position. Alternate male and female and use formal names (Mr. Robert Jones).

Etiquette for place cards has to do with how guests are seated at the table. Host at the head of the table, hostess at the foot. Any guest of honor sits near the host. Husbands and wives sit opposite, not next to each other. Seating along the side goes boy girl boy girl, etc.

It is good to seat people who have common interests next to each other. Also, couples should be seated next to each other because this will make them most comfortable.

The biggest problem with using face cards at a dinner party is putting people who aren't a fan of someone next to each other. Make sure you're careful who you put next to who. Also, put them on the plates. That way everyone will clearly see that there's a seating arrangement.

Host and hostess are seated at the opposite ends of the table while guest of honor is on the right of the host. Seat people "boy girl boy girl" and put spouses opposite each other, not next to each other. Try not to seat people who hate each other together.

Place the place cards at the top of the plate. Write the guest's name on both sides of a folded place card. Use the guest's full name. You can decide on whether or not to use Mr. or Mrs. Alternate male and females, but put husbands and wives across from each other.

When using place cards at a dinner party, good etiquette should be in spelling all the names correctly. Also, sitting people who like each other is good.
