Esotericism, sometimes called "esoterica", refers to an individual's belief system that holds the inner, mystical spiritual self in the highest regard over all outward knowledge. It pertains mainly to a secret and enlightened inwardness. All religions in the world recognize, value and foster the inner spirit and as such, esotericism can be said to be an undercurrent in all theologies.

Esoterica deal with obscure (little-known) facts and topics that appeal to a limited group. Say you like to study programming in BASIC code on 25 year old computers. That's esoterica.

Esoterica refers to things that are specific to a certain field of study or group of people and thus only understood by people in the field or group.
