It is not about Satan. It is the first installment in the Black Jewel series. A la Anne Rice, Bishop brings a lot of dark, sexual themes to her work.

It is the first book in a fantasy trilogy set in a world where people are able to do magic. While a character is named satean he has no real connection with the biblical ideal of Satan. It is a good series and while the first book is rather sexually explicit the rest of the series aren't as graphic.
