Conduit is the name for the protective tubing that is used to protect electrical wiring. It can be made in multiple thickness as well as in various types of material depending on the wiring and the specific applications. It was originated when gas pipes where used to house electrical wiring when lights where changed over from gas.

A conduit is a channel or pipe that electrical wires pass through. Conduits are used to protect the wires from damage from rodents, the weather or being cut. You will usually see conduit used in commercial buildings.
