There is probably a very simple reason for this, most likely you are resting in a position that is stopping blood flow to whatever body part is falling asleep. However, if this problem persists or occurs often even without cutting off blood flow then you should seek medical adice or assistance.

Your arms and legs "fall asleep" when the nerve supply to that region loses blood flow for a short period of time. Your extremities should "wake up" upon reperfusion.

Tight clothing can cause your arms and legs to "fall asleep", but pressure on the muscles from rigorous exercise or long periods of walking can cause this feeling. Poor circulation or disorders such as multiple sclerosis, arthritis or vitamin deficiencies can also be a cause. It can be corrected with physiotherapy.

Arms and legs tend to fall asleep due to improper blood flow. This can be caused by restricting your circulation. An arm hanging out a car door can reduce circulation. Sitting on a fence can reduce blood flow. Another cause can be lack of use. If you leave an appendage still for too long, blood flow is decreased.

If you do not move your arms or legs for a long period of time, there is restriction in the blood flow, which causes the tingeling feeling you get.

Possibly inactivity - lack of exercise. You may have a trapped nerve in your spine or problems with sciatica I'd guess - but I'm not a doctor!
