Berber carpet is essentially a standard carpet that isn't cut. The carpet has loops whereas in a standard carpet the loops would be cut to create the pile. It's desirable because over time it doesn't visibly show wear as much; however the construction is the same as other carpets and the amount of wear is the same; just doesn't show.
