allergy

Question by  Michael85 (17)

Is it possible that my recent illness could be a new carpet allergy?

I've been sniffling and having terrible sinus problems ever since about a week after my carpet was installed. Could I be allergic?

Yes, it's not guaranteed that the carpet is what you are allergic to. Perhaps some of the padding used to install your carpet is something you are allergic to.

It's entirely possible. That "New Carpet Smell" is from the chemicals used in manufacturing, and have been known to cause adverse reactions.

Yes, usually if you are introduced to a new object you may very well have an allergic reaction to it. Though if you have been exposed to that certain allergen and developed an allergic reaction, it is possible that you just developed a delayed or late reaction to this certain object.

New carpets can definitely cause allergy issues that did not exist earlier. Some of those could vanish and some might remain forever.

Yes, the new carpets release gasses for some time. You can ventilate your house as much as possible with open windows and fans/air conditioning, activated carbon filters work well also.
