"Hacienda" is a word derived from early Spanish settlers in Mexico and is similar to the meaning of State. They were meant originally to be self sufficient and luxurious.

Hacienda, which is a gerunda from the verb make in Spanish, is a large farm. It equates sometimes in size to pre-civil war plantations in America.
