Screw finders are for electric drills are usually packaged with a bit set. Theyre typically a quarter inch thick shaft, about three inches long, with a connector on one end and a hole on the other to accept the drill bits. The shaft part slides to hold screws in place.

It is an adapter that you put on the end of a drill, and you slide a sleeve down over the screw shaft to hold the screw in place so that it does not wobble while your trying to screw it in.

He is probably looking for a stud finder which can be found anywhere from Lowes/Home Depot to Wal-Mart or your local hardware store. Before electronic stud finders came out they made a small device with a magnet that would find nails/screws in the drywall which indicated a stud.
