What is a paludarium?

I know that the Shed Aquarium in Chicago have a ton of them but do not really know what they are.

A paludarium is a vivarium that has both terrestrial and aquatic life forms. They are usually enclosed containers and come in a wide range of sizes.

These are tanks for keeping newts, salamaders and other semi aquatic animals. It comes from paludal-- meaning of the marsh and "arium" as in aqu-arium (aquarium). These are containments that replicate the conditions in a marsh or swampy region. People tend to be self-sufficient-- the plants in the system keep the water relatively clean. They do not require much cleaning.

It is a salamander, or newt. They are like a mix between a snake and a lizard. They love to hangout and live in moist places such as; rivers or rain forest.
