A mortise machine(mortiser) is similar to a drill press but it is fitted with special bits to bore square holes into wood, the bit is a two part tip with a central drill bit to bore the wood and an outer chisel to cut which combined creates a neat looking square hole, you operate this machine using a foot press.

mortiser is a wood cutting machine which is used to cut square and rectangular holes in a piece of lumber.Traditionally,it would be cut by hand,using chisel and mallet.There are different types square chisel,horizontal,chain.For cutting small mortiser,normal drill can be used.It is used to create tenon joint and router also used in this task.

This tool is similar to a plunge router except it is used to cut square or rectangular holes. This is so that it accept the tenon of another piece.
