A marsupial is a type of land mammal that is made unique because its body contains a pocket. Though it sounds strange, examples of marsupials include: kangaroos, koalas, and the duck-billed platypus. These animals all happen to be found in Australia.

It is a mammal that gives birth to live young but most do not use a placenta. The young are underdeveloped and a pouch is used to continue the growth and development of the young on "teats" or nipples that also help carry them while they are so tiny.
