Have the article explain about the person, perhaps why they are leaving, and describe the information about the party itself, i.e. potluck, themed, etc.

Well there are many ways to invite people over to a going away party. I'm sure you don't want the standard way of invitations. It already takes the fun out of a party. I think a neighborhood scavenger hunt is a great idea. Have friends search for the party.
