A collaborator is someone who co-operates with the authorities. Generally it has a negative meaning, and is not taken as a compliment. It was used of people in Nazi occupied territories during WW2 who co-operated with the Nazi forces, often causing great damage to their own countries and people.

A collaborator is someone that helps with something, or partners with something. Two people who work together for a common goal would be collaborators.
