Cars DONT use hydraulic fluid. Now transmission fluid is the same weight as hydraulic fluid and yes you have to use tranny fluid. But NO car uses hydraulic fluid.

Depending on what type of system, it can ruin the performance of the car. Without the fluid, systems that depend on hydraulics to perform will not operate as needed.

Various hydralic systems will cease to function properly if the fluid levels are allowed to run low. Brakes will stop working, clutches will fail to engage, power steering will become grossly effortful, etc. Routine maintenance includes checking hydralic fluid levels, repairs as needed, and topping up. Failure to keep fluid levels as recommended can certainly cause damage and dangerous conditions.

It depends on what kind of hydraulic fluid being used. Oil is the most common, and no car can function without it. Let's talk about another, transmission fluid. Denying your car transmission fluid is a good way to punish it by forcing the transmission to withstand painful lubrication from metal shavings and other contaminants, eventually causing the transmission to fail.

Hydraulic fluid might be used in a clutch assembly. If it's low the clutch wont work. Now if you mean engine oil then no oil will ruin the engine.
