If the doctor discovers that the baby is in breech prior to you going into labor, the doctor may give you the opportunity to externally invert it. In other words, by putting pressure on your uterus, the doctor will try to get the baby to turn around. Sometimes this works, adn sometimes not. If not, you will have a c-section.

If the doctor knows ahead of time that the baby is breach they will just do a C-section and be done with it. However, you don't always know which way the baby is facing. So if there are major problems during childbirth they assume the baby is breach and will do a C-section so you or the baby don't die.
