One year olds can eat a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, meats and snacks. Take things slow when moving children to whole foods to rule out allergies.

A one year old can eat bananas, mashed potatoes, soft veggies like cooked peas and beans, finely minced meat is good, cereals like oatmeal, and whole grain cold cereal like Cheerios. They should have whole milk since kids this age still need fat and they should never eat foods that could cause them to choke like hard candies.

When your child is that age he is just starting to get teeth so softer foods are better. Finger foods like cheerios are good too.

After you have weaned your child to soft foods, take your time to introduce the child to solid but gentle foods like crushed yams, bananas, crushed irish potatoes, porridge, cereal. Try to cut off the Gerber at this point or they will be weaned forever. Hope that this helps a lot!!

Common practice is to gauge what foods your 1 year is ready to eat by their development now and not age. Your pediatrician is the best person to ask. It may be that all foods can be introduced now but be sure to add one at a time.
