Betta's are generally the best fish for small bowls. They are easy to care for and clean, but must be kept alone. You could keep a gold fish in a small bowl, but it would require more care and cleaning. For fish other then betta's it is generally one inch of fish per gallon of water.

The ONLY fish that can survive in a bowl is a betta fish. However, the bowl needs to be atleast 1 gallon and needs to be kept in a warm area and frequently cleaned. Larger is better though. Goldfish can NEVER be housed in bowls, they get large and are extremely messy fish.

Bettas are the best kind of fish to keep in a small fish bowl. But there can only be one Betta fish in one fish bowl because betta fish are known to each other.
