Lactic acid enzymes are released by muscles when they are in use, typically while exercising. Lactic acid eats away at the muscles which causes soreness after a vigorous workout. The muscles respond to this by healing themselves and getting stronger which leads the building of muscles. The heart also releases enzymes which, in excess can lead to a heart attack.
