Usually obstruction of justice is a crime committed by a judge, prosecutor, attorney general, and an elected officials. It involves misfeasance, malfeasance or nonfeasance, which means that these officials did not behave properly. For example, a prosecutor that withholds evidence that favors the defendant would be guilty of obstruction of justice.

Although the exact wording varies from place to place, obstruction of justice generally means interfering with a criminal investigation or prosecution. This could mean tampering with evidence, lying to the police, hiding a suspect or more.

Obstruction is coming between the law and the law's ability to do what is right for the common good. If you lie, hide someone, hide evidence, or otherwise impede or obstruct the law in its course to protect the common good, you are obstructing, and this is a serious crime.
