It means that the gold is 80% gold. When you buy gold, it usually isn't made up of 100% gold. 100% gold is 24 karat. 80% would be four-fifths of 24, which is 19. 2. You'll find that a lot of gold bought in Europe is marked with a 750, which is 18 karats.

When 800 is marked on a gold piece it means that it is 19. 2k and has 80% of gold in it. The karat differs from country to country and value also differs.

Gold pieces have usually a marking of either the carats or how many parts pure gold per thousand parts. This also allows you to know that the gold piece is real gold, and not a fake.

The marking of 800 means it contains 80% gold. It may be French 19k gold. In European gold jewelry it is marked as 18 k then it is meant that gold content in it may be 18 out of 24 parts gold
