The 926 stands for Yellow 22k Gold. This is significantly different then 925 which means silver. When you see 926 on another colored ring it means that the ring was plated over with another metal.

Any more help on the 926 mark? I have it on a silver beaker - could be plated - even gold plated on silver and the gold has gone, though there are traces. All help appreciated. Thanks  add a comment

This number indicate the grade of gold on the scale of 1 to 1000. In most cases gold is alloyed with other metals, so the higher the number the higher the grade.

The 926 stamp refers to 22K gold. This stamp is usually used in Italy. Other stamp conversions are: 750 for 18K or 925 for sterling silver.

Check your ring again with a magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe. It may actually read 925. In that case, your ring is actually made of sterling silver, not gold.
