Narrow stool is most often caused by an inflammation of the bowel tract, or a bowel obstruction. These can be caused by mild infections, stress, benign rectal polyps, or prostate enlargement (in males). If the stool is pencil-thin, it's advisable to see a doctor, as narrow stool can rarely be caused by colon or prostate cancer.

It means either that your intestinal tracts are very narrow, not yet stretched out, or that your sphincter is very tight and is actually crushing your stool down into very thin shapes.

A narrow stool indicates narrow intestinal walls. This means that there is some kind of inflammation present in your intestines that is making the passages narrower.
