Question by  johnrlenginesaolcom (12)

What does it mean if they found nonspecific white matter in an MRI of the brain?

Is this bad? What should I do about it?

Sometimes this is a sign of M.S. The spots are from the tissue breakdown. Some times these white patches are from heavy smoking. Another reason is there could be small blood clots if you have a genetic disorder.

Whenever it comes to something like that the only way to get the correct answers is to schedule a consult with the doctor that gave the diagnoses when you go in as you talk to them and you think of questions you will be able to get the answers you need to have a complete understanding of the diagnoses.

It all depends on where the white matter is located. There are certain parts of the brain in which this could result in a learning disorder however there are other locations in which it will not effect the person at all.

It can be bad - it has been linked to Multiple sclerosis and alzheimers. you should see a neurologist and have a repeat MRI.

It could be scarring from past injury (hitting your head, etc) but it could also be a sign of MS. You should definitely ask your doctor!
