Iron is absorbed and exess of it is stored int body in the form of ferritin. So iron defficiency can cause depletion of ferritin level, which is the most common cause of low ferritin. Exesssive blood loss in case of chronic blood loss due to polymenorrhoea,metrorrhagia, gestro intestinal bleeding also cause low ferritn.
