DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. It is a method of carrying a digital signal over a telephone line to provide network communications. It is not possible (or necessary) to run DSL over cable. It can be more or less bandwidth than cable. It is not picked up by a phone; but, is decoded by a special receiver.
Digital Subscriber Line- which is a group, or "family" of technologies that processed digital data transmission over conventional telephone wire. Originally, this was Digital Subscriber Loop.
