What does cognitive conservatism mean?

A friend used this term the other day and I don't know what it is.

In layman's terms it means "set in your ways" in terms of your beliefs. In general, it means that once someone has made up their mind or holds strong beliefs, it is much harder to get them to change their mind than someone who is generally open-minded. You usually hear it used in the context of deeply religious people.

I'm not sure what it means. It may be an academic term or may have something to do with politics. You may want to do a web search and see what you come up with. YOu may want to use an online dictionary or even look it up on Wikipedia.
