What do you use to guide you when selecting a place to dine out?

I usually try to think about what is around the area that I am. I also keep in consideration what the reason I am going out to eat is for, if it's just because I would rather go somewhere where it's more casual and if it's for a special occasion I look for something formal.

When I dine out, I always get the opinions of friends and co-workers to help me find a new restaurant. They have always led me in the right direction.
