Cane bolts are used to secure one of the gates when you have a double gate. Can also be used to secure any gate in an open position. Some cane bolts have a special feature: 1) Keylock which can be re-keyed. 2) Spring Loaded Brake- holds cane bolt in any position, keeps gate from swinging. 3)Gate wheel- move gate easier.

They are usually used as hinges on gates on privacy fences and around pools. They can also be used as hinges for barn doors and storage building doors. Another use is for wheels on gates and doors that are oversized and need to have the strain on the hinges relieved.
