How do you prevent a horse from bolting?

Assuming your horse is well trained and bolting because it is scared, the easiest way to get it to stop is to gently but firmly pull one rein, turning the horse's nose towards it's shoulder circling your horse around. Sometimes you will have to switch from one rein to the other until the horse is under control.

Make sure your horse is calm. Try getting someone to lead you around to get him used to his surroundings. Use a bit that can control your horse.

Keep the horse calm in a sooting voice and small petting. Let him take his time to accept the problem and them encourage hime that is ok you are with him.
