I believe Maya Angelou's greatest work was her memoir I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. It chronicled her first 17 years of life, revealing her struggles with self esteem, sexual abuse, and becoming a single mother. Being able to appreciate her life when things appeared at their worst,is what makes you admire her at her current best.

There are a couple of things: her appearance in the television show 'Roots' and 'Poetic Justice' and her bestselling titles, over 30 of them. She has also taught music and drama in Ghana and worked as an editor in Cairo. She worked with Malcolm X and Dr Martin Luther King.

I think Maya Angelou is a great woman with lots of great work. I believe her greatest work would be her books.

I think her book I know Why the Caged Bird Sings is her best work because it chonicles her amazing life. She overcomes racism, abuse and family dysfunction and becomes an educated and worldy woman. The book is inspirational and thought provoking.

Maya Angelo is quite often best know for her poetry, and rightly so. But her greatest work is clearly "A Raisin in the Sun", a play.
