There are two different kinds of Japanese sandals. The geta sandals have a seperate heel and makes a "clacking" sound when you walk. The zori sandals have a flat bottom.

A Japanese sandal is called a Geta but is traditionally worn with a Japanese garment like a Yukata and no socks. Ordinarily people wear a sandal called a Zori made of materials like rice straw, leather or rubber, with toe socks called Tabi.
