What do the words "diamond" and "pearl" have to do with Pokemon?

Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl are the titles of the DS incarnations of the Pokemon franchise released in 2007. There's nothing more than that. All the titles really are are ways to differentiate the games from each other and at the point when they were released, the games were using precious stones as titles.

The words Diamond and Pearl have nothing to do with the games themselves. Diamond and Pearl are just the names of the games so you can tell the difference between the generations of games. Gen 1 is Red/Blue/Yellow, Gen 2 is Gold/Silver/Crystal, Gen 3 is Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green, Gen 4 is Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Heart Gold/Soul Silver.
