Labor laws have nothing to do with mileage reimbursement. Mileage reimbursement is a benefit of employment that is negotiated with the employer. Reimbursed mileage expenses are considered income by the IRS for the purposes of taxes.

Your company is not obligated to pay you any mileage reimbursement at all. The amount, if any, is negotiated between you and your employer. There is an amount above which the IRS will consider a mileage reimbursement to be added income, but there is no minimum requirement in most states.

This information should have been talked about when you got the job, or when you were promoted to the job. There is a certain amount companies pay for mileage, which sometimes includes gas. Is this your car or a company car? If it's a company car are you using it at home? That could be the difference.
