You need to be careful not to cut your new grass too early. By doing so, will destroy the roots. I would suggest waiting until your grass is 4 to 5 inches tall in height before cutting. This will allow the grass enough time to take and grow deep roots.

new grass is delicate and should be at least 3 1/2 inches tall before cutting it, after the first cut you have to wait at least another 3-5 days then cut a second time, this reduces the thread of shock and stress to the roots. also important is to keep your feet off the grass during this period.

You should wait until the new grass has properly taken hold and begun growing well before cutting it, usually about two weeks.

New grass should not be cut for at least 3 to 4 weeks after installation. Your mower should be adjusted to the highest height and the blade very sharp. Cutting with a dull blade will cause the end of the grass blade to fray and increases the chances for disease.

You will be ok if you wait until the new grass is at least 31/2"-4" high. Cut in 1/2" increments. Try to keep it at 3". You do however want to make sure the roots are nice and strong. Cutting it this way will also help prevent weed growth.

Sod will take about two weeks to root. You need to be sure to water it well during this period. Make sure to soak it to start with. In other words water it very well upfront. After that keep it moist, hitting it with a sprinkler once a day. After two weeks or more it will be good.
