They are probably telling you to not take the things she say's or does personally. Bi-polar disorder is most commonly thought of as genetic, can be helped with drugs and therapy. One of the best things you can do is help her stay on her medication (if she's on one).

The best thing for you to do is to get some therapy yourself so you can get some education about the disorder and strategies for dealing with your wife's behaviors related to bipolar disorder. People mean that it isn't your fault she is bipolar and you didn't cause it.

I know it seems difficult, but you have to take certain things she says or does with a "grain of salt." I think it's mostly about patience, and realizing that at some times certain actions or behaviors are out of her control.

Bipolar disorder is something that many people suffer from, the best I can tell you is to be there and help your wife through. Talk to a psychiatrist about starting her on some bipolar medication; such as lithium.
