Not every child is going to hit every milestone as they are suggested. An 18 month old child should be trying out new words, making efforts to communicate, increasing their dexterity, feeding themselves, etc. If they are hitting the majority of the milestones, don't worry too much. Ask your doctor at the next check up.

Every child is different, at 18 months children are going to vary on what they can do. The most important thing is to pay attention to his or her speech development, how many words are they saying, are they talking in two word sentences. Can they communicate their needs to you.

There are a lot of developmental stages that your child should be going through by 18 months of age. There is language development, physical, motor skills, sensory, intellectual, social and emotional. However, all children develop at different paces. So, don't panic if your child is behind.
